We are very happy with the progress we are making. The companies are being communicative and parts are being made.

We will make another trip to China when most parts have been made and will personally set up the assembly line to ensure the quality. We will also stay there and sit in assembly line ourselves to imbue them with our love and speed up the process.

Since we are noobs at projects this scale it sure has been much more a jump into the deep end than planned. We are trying our best and learning every day.

BIG PROBLEM! Read This!

WE HAD A BIG PROBLEM. WE SOLVED IT. HERE IS WHAT HAPPENS NOW.

We solved the problem but we're a little late!

WHAT HAPPENED

Our aluminum CNC manufacturer decided to shove a big stick in our wheel.

It started out great. The samples were good and it was easy to communicate as they were a European company. All was going great until about 3 weeks into the 3 months agreed upon lead time. When out of the blue said they did not want to make these parts anymore.

When we asked to buy the parts that they had already made, it turned out they never even started production...

Yeah, that was a fun day... So much wasted time and effort. We have taken legal action against the company since they breached the contract, but that doesn't solve the problem we are now facing; Delivery on time.

We had a trip booked for China to overlook and quality check the production of the EDM parts. Late nights and early mornings ensued between then and the trip to find good manufacturers that we could have samples ready for our visits to their factories.

We were very fortunate to find an excellent manufacturer during that trip. The quality of the parts they can make is amazing. They make parts for Apple and Huawei (both of which are located close by) to namedrop a few. They were able to make 3 rounds of samples during our "short trip" at which point we had exactly the tolerances, finish, and quality we were looking for. The price is higher than the European company, but so is the quality. We got to be a part of the whole process of manufacturing. They let us be part of the whole process and let us decide the order of operation all the way down to the CAM and through to the anodizing.

It really was a no-brainer for us. We now have even better parts to assemble the final product with.

THERE IS STILL ONE PROBLEM

All this has cost us time and we are behind on the schedule. In order to be able to deliver before Christmas, we have to ship from China. Getting the knives to Italy just takes too long (the main reason we wanted to use a European company).

The plan is for us to go back to China to personally help assemble, quality check and ship the Maker Knives.

If you DO NOT want your Maker Knife to ship from China. Please fill out this form:

If you want your order shipped from China in December you don't need to do anything.

We will take steps to greatly reduce the chance of you having to pay customs fees, but unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that it won't happen. Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden, for instance, due to how their customs handle packages, will always have to pay a fee regardless of what we do. Other countries might have similar systems. Please check your import rules carefully.

Again: If you DO NOT want your Maker Knife to ship from China. Please tell fill out this form:

If you want your order shipped from China in December you don't need to do anything.

Talking about Christmas, if you want to give a Maker Knife as a present then place your order as soon as possible. The batch that is being made now is running out faster than expected!
